The Cal Pride Scholarship

Cal Alumni Pride is the LGBTQ alumni club of UC Berkeley. Their mission is to support and promote the interests of UC Berkeley and its alumni, with an emphasis on issues and interests specific to the LGBTQ community. One of Cal Alumni Pride’s major objectives is to serve as a resource to LGBTQ undergraduate students and their allies in the form of mentorship and scholarship opportunities.The Cal Pride Scholarship is a one-year, merit-based award that recognizes continuing students and incoming transfer students of the UC Berkeley campus for academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement, as well as their contribution to the LGBTQ community.

Please take due care when responding to the essays presented, as those students selected for finalist interviews are often chosen on the basis of the thought and consideration of their responses. Successful applicants are often those who spend more time on the essays and are able to articulate their positions clearly in subsequent in-person interviews.

  2. Essay 2: This scholarship was created to support the work of Cal students to be both ambassadors for Cal and the LGBTQ community. How have you connected with the LGBTQ identity at Cal, previous institutions, and/or in your community (broadly defined)? How are you serving as an ambassador of Cal and the LGBTQ community?

I certify that I meet all eligibility requirements as specified on this application. I release this information to the Cal Alumni Association and its staff and volunteers for the purposes of evaluating my scholarship application. I understand that some of the biographical information included in my application may be released to the donor(s) of my alumni scholarship. I understand that the information given may be investigated and that any false representation and/or evidence of plagiarism is sufficient cause for rejection of this application or forfeiture of all awarded funds. I also give permission to the UC Berkeley Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to release any and all information included in my Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarships to the Cal Alumni Association, provided that such information is used for the purpose of evaluating my application for the Alumni Scholars Program.
